Today's podcast episode is going to be my daily reflection.
I'm going to talk about the Youtubers' event I had last week. We talked about language acquisition. We talked about how to start a Youtube channel. We also gave evaluation and feedback to upcoming Youtubers. We also had some Q&A session with the audience.
It was a wonderful event. About 170, 180 people came to the event in Daechi-dong, and people loved it. It was a fun event. I'm so happy that I got to meet these three Youtubers. Not only ddi I get to meet them, but I got them on the stage at the same time. So I'm very happy that I did that–by the ways, I was one of the organizers of the event. There were two of us, me and Joseph we organized this event and I was one of the organizers and I also emceed and interviewed the three guests. I'm so happy that everyone had a great time. everyone learned something.
I wanted to share what I learned at that event. The event itself was 2 hours long. So I'm not going to be able to go every detail but I'm going to share some of the things I learned from those three guests. Hyunwoo was raised here, grew up in Korea, never studied abroad, and his English is amazing. Aran, very similar story–she has only done maybe 6 months of a study abroad program when she was in college and her accent and pronunciation are impeccable. This is what they said. They talked to themselves in English. It doesn't matter whether you talk to a foreigner friend, or talk to yourself. You have to speak out loud. Even if looks crazy, even if it looks strange or weird, what you should be doing is speaking out loud. If you don't have a friend, you can talk to yourself. And in fact, I do that too, in Korean. By doing that you're making a language a part of your life. It's a part of you now. Speak out loud. Jay immigrated to Canada and became a citizen. He said at first it was difficult for him to make friends with Caucasians. So instead he became friends with Asians at school. My point is if you want to practice English, you don't have to speak to a Caucasian, white person. If you want to practice English, just make friends with anyone that you like, and just start speaking in English. That's all!
We also talked about Youtube. This is one thing Hyunwoo told us. If you want to start Youtube, you're not going to find your unique voice until you have published at least 100 videos. I agree with that. I also have a Youtube channel and I was trying many different things. Sometimes I tried to do serious videos, sometimes I tried to do funny videos, and I didn't find my style, I didn't find my voice until after I have published 100 videos. What it means for you is even if you're not considering starting a Youtube channel is that quantity matters. If you want to get good at something, you have to get the quantity out. If you want to start a Youtube channel you have to be good at speaking in front of camera. If you want to improve your English, you have to get yourself to speak in English in one way or another. At first, you don't know what your voice is, you don't know what your style is. Same thing with writing. They are both difficult at the beginning. The only way to get better is to do more.
There were a lot of people who wanted to come to this event but couldn't because we had a limited number of seats. But I will do more follow-ups on this event. I'll probably be uploading videos very soon. So I hope you look forward to that.
That's it for my daily reflection for today. That's it for today. Signing off.
